Cloudflare Account

Recommended: a Cloudflare account with a Workers paid plan ($5/month)

Create a token at cloudflare.com/profile/api-tokens with permissions: (under Account) Workers Scripts: Edit, D1: Edit, and (under Zone) Workers Routes: Edit and DNS Settings: Edit. See example screenshot.

Tell users what your relay is about (max 500 chars)

Access Control

When enabled, clients must authenticate using NIP-42 before accessing the relay. Recommended for security.

NIP-05 Verification

Format: username:pubkey_hex (one per line). These will be available as username@your-relay.com and give verified checkmark on Nostr account

Rate Limiting

Maximum EVENT messages per minute from a single pubkey

Maximum REQ (subscription) messages per minute per connection

Event kinds that bypass rate limiting (e.g., contact lists)

Relay Limitations

Maximum size of WebSocket messages (default: 512KB)

Maximum number of active subscriptions per client

Maximum number of events returned in a single query

Maximum number of tags allowed in a single event

Maximum length of event content field

Minimum proof-of-work difficulty (0 = disabled)

Database Pruning

Automatically prune old events when the database approaches the size threshold

Start pruning when database size exceeds this threshold (default: 9 GB)

Target size to prune down to (default: 8 GB)

Number of events to delete per pruning batch (default: 1000)

Comma-separated event kinds that are never pruned (default: 0, 3, 10002)
